Sailor in the antebellum United States Navy, brigadier general in the Union Army, and civil engineer who helped to plan and lay out New York City's Central Park (1824–1889). Civil War-dated ALS signed “Charles K. Graham,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, April 20, 1865. Handwritten letter to Col. William A. Howard of the 13th New York Artillery, in part: "Your unofficial note rec'd…will attend to this…Commander Schenck expects to sail Saturday & I have promised to give him an oration tomorrow afternoon." In fine condition, with two small pieces of tape affixed to the left edge.
