Description

Early ALS from Millard Fillmore, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, August 23, 1831. Addressed from Buffalo, a handwritten letter from a 31-year-old Fillmore to New York Deputy Secretary Archibald Campbell, in part: “I send the annexed affidavit…to be recorded in the Secretary’s office, and wish a certified copy of the record returned. I inclose one dollar for your fees.” The reverse is hand-addressed by Fillmore. In fine condition, with multiple intersecting folds, and a small seal-related area of thin paper to the left edge. A considerably early letter from Fillmore as an emerging New York politician, written less than a year before he would run and win a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives—research indicates that this is the earliest Fillmore ALS that we have offered.
