Original handwritten outline draft for a Christmas card by Winnie the Pooh creator A. A. Milne, unsigned, no date, measures 7.25 x 5 open, with Milne annotating the front cover and interior pages in pencil. The front cover is marked “Picture” and “H’lump,” and the inner pages feature an arrow to the left side and Milne’s handwritten draft for the card’s text to the right: “‘H-lump!’ said Roo accidentally. ‘Roo, dear!’ said Kanga reproachfully. ‘H-hop-py Christmas,’ explained Roo quickly. Wishing you a Merry Christmas from…and…” The truncated “H’lump” may be a reference to a Heffalump, an elephant-like creature in the Winnie-the-Pooh stories that are mentioned, and only appear, in Pooh and Piglet's dreams in Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), and are seen again in The House at Pooh Corner (1928). In fine condition, with light handling wear.
Originates from the collection of British publisher Leslie Smith.
