First National Bank of Boston check, 6.5 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Hemingway, "Ernest M. Hemingway," payable to Portador [Bearer] for $50, August 14, 1947. Endorsed on the reverse in fountain pen by Roberto Herrera. In fine condition. Herrera was Hemingway's close friend, part-time secretary, and brother of his Cuban doctor; he frequently accompanied the writer on his exploits aboard the famous fishing boat Pilar.
