Official color glossy 13.75 x 10.75 NASA photo of CDR Alan Shepard posing with the American flag on the lunar surface during the Apollo 14 mission, affixed to its original 20 x 16 presentation mount, which is signed and inscribed in black felt tip, “To Gene Cernan – with sincere gratitude for the support, guidance and humor which helped make this possible – Alan Shepard” and “Anything more than an echo of Al’s comments might seem trite – so ‘Ditto,’ Ed Mitchell,” who adds above, “Apollo 14, 2/5/71.” The mount reverse is marked in felt tip, “GC-0549.” In fine condition, with trivial wear to mount edges and some toning to mount borders. An exceptional association piece between fellow moonwalkers—Cernan served as the backup commander for the Apollo 14 mission alongside CMP Ron Evans and LMP Joe Engle, the latter replaced with Harrison Schmitt for the Apollo 17 moon-landing mission.
