Japanese naval officer who commanded the 11th Flotilla (1900–1986) and who was Senior Officer on board the destroyer Amagiri on the night of the collision with John F. Kennedy's PT-109. Series 1976 two-dollar bill with affixed 'Root of Democracy' postage stamps and first day cancelation, signed in black ballpoint, "The United States roots of democracy with the veterans stamps should pay tribute to Lt. F. Kennedy and the PT 109 which was sunk by accident by the Amagiri. Capt. K. Yamashiro, Cmdr. Amagiri." Above, he adds a sketch of the incident, showing the Amagiri ramming the side of the PT-109, under the heading: "Aug. 2, 1943, Blackett Strait.". In fine condition, with moderate-to-poor handwriting contrast. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.
