Andrew Jackson grants a patent for an "improvement in the construction of a back for a Forge"—desirably signed by the president, secretary of state, and future chief justice

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 10.75 x 14.25, March 27, 1832. A patent issued to "Philo C. Curtis, A Citizen of the United States, [who] hath alleged that he has invented a new and useful improvement in the construction of a back for a Forge, & for most other fires where a blast is used." Signed at the conclusion by President Andrew Jackson and countersigned by Secretary of State Edward Livingston and Attorney General Roger B. Taney. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. The second page, still attached by the original yellow, describes the improvement. In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, some small stains, and overall soiling. A sought-after format signed by three notable American figures.
