Partly-printed DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 17 x 14, January 19, 1881. President Hayes appoints Charles E. Allen as "Postmaster at Lancaster, in the County of Coos, State of New Hampshire." Signed at the conclusion in ink by President Rutherford B. Hayes and countersigned by Postmaster General Horace Maynard. The gold foil seal and red ribbon affixed at the lower left remain intact. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, tiny edge separations, and light offsetting from the seal.
