Description

Legal scholar and attorney (1912–2004) who served as a special prosecutor during the Watergate scandal, and was famously fired by President Richard Nixon in an incident that became known as the 'Saturday Night Massacre.' Two items: a souvenir typescript of Cox's letter to Fred Buzhardt requesting "access to the recordings of certain conversations between the President and various members of the White House staff and others whose conduct is under investigation in connection with the alleged coverup of the break-in at the Democratic National Committee offices," three pages, 8.5 x 11, signed at the conclusion in by by Archibald Cox; and a TNS signed "Archibald Cox," one page, 7.25 x 3.5, in full: "You ask whether I think that President Ford acted wisely in pardoning former President Nixon. I was critical of the pardon at the time and publicly stated that in my opinion former President Nixon should have been forced to stand trial before a jury like anyone else indicted by a grand jury. Today, I am more doubtful." In fine condition.
