Legal scholar and attorney (1912–2004) who served as a special prosecutor during the Watergate scandal, and was famously fired by President Richard Nixon in an incident that became known as the 'Saturday Night Massacre.' ALS, one page, 6 x 7, personal letterhead, September 30, 2003. Handwritten letter regarding the Watergate scandal, in full: "Some time ago you wrote and asked me my opinion of three men who are widely known for their roles in the aftermath of Watergate. In my opinion Judge Sirica discharged his duties admirably. He had a difficult and enormously important task. Elliot Richardson was, as you say, 'a very strong character.' He was also very talented and capable, and had had a distinguished career. I knew him as my student and friend. William Ruckelshaus was also a strong and able man. After Watergate he went on to a notable career in both business and government." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Cox's own hand.
