TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Byrd Polar Expeditions letterhead, September 21, 1950. Letter to Cornelius Vanderbilt, Jr., in part: "I have just returned to my office in Washington. My secretary in Boston forwarded your letter down here and I found it awaiting me when I got here this morning. I have been on active duty practically continually since 1939. At the moment I am with Operations. I am sorry I did not get your letter sooner. I have known Jimmy Roosevelt since he was a youngster. His Father and Mother have been great friends of mine. Please give Jimmy, if you see him, my warm regards." In fine condition.
