TLS as president-elect, one page, 6 x 7, personal letterhead, February 20, 1921. Letter to Governor William C. Sproul of Pennsylvania, in full: "I beg to acknowledge your telegram in behalf of Mr. Andrew W. Mellon. You can understand why I do not write decisively about Cabinet appointments, but I can say to you that I hold Mr. Mellon in very high esteem, and am pleased to have your cordial commendation." In fine condition. Harding would indeed appoint Mellon as the 49th United States Secretary of the Treasury, a position he would hold until 1932, serving under Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and Herbert Hoover. Excellent content regarding a president-elect's choice of his cabinet.
