TLS, one page, 6 x 8.25, July 20, 1971. Letter to Ted M. Levine, in part: "I am really quite opposed to your suggestion of my taking out a single quotation, paragraph etc of one of my works. When I write a book it is written as a book, and I have no interest whatever in any particular sentence which makes up part of the whole. A book is not like a bran pie in which you take out a lucky dip. I would not like at all to advertise myself in the manner you suggest. In fact, I cannot really understand why you want to collect these things." In fine condition.
