Mexican soldier and politician (1794–1876) best remembered for leading the defeat of Texan defenders at the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. LS in Spanish, signed “A. L. de Sta. Anna,” one page, 8.25 x 10.5, September 20, 1865. Letter to Dr. S. A. Kingman in New York, sent while living in exile in Saint Thomas. In part (translated): "I include my portrait and a thought to you, in return for your kind regards." In fine condition, with multiple intersecting folds.
