American horticulturist and researcher (1849–1926) credited with developing hundreds of plant varieties and hybrids, including the spineless cactus, the Shasta daisy, and the Burbank potato. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 bust-length portrait of Burbank by J. R. Reid, signed and inscribed to the photographer in the lower border in fountain pen, "To J. R. Reid from Luther Burbank.” Signed in the lower left corner and on the reverse by the photographer. In fine condition, with a crease to the upper right corner, and light staining to the top border.
