The tallest person in recorded history for whom there is irrefutable evidence (1918-1940). Wadlow's height was 8 ft 11.1 in (2.72 m), while his weight reached 439 lb (199 kg) at his death at the age of 22. His great size and his continued growth in adulthood were due to hypertrophy of his pituitary gland, which results in an abnormally high level of human growth hormone. Vintage glossy 3.5 x 5.5 postcard photo of Robert Wadlow towering over his father, signed vertically in fountain pen. Annotated on the reverse in another hand with his impressive statistics: "Age 22 years, Height 8´ 9˝, Weight 491, Colar size 19, Sleeve length 47´, Weight at Birth 8 1/2 lbs." In fine condition, with light crazing to the emulsion.
