Partly-printed DS, signed "George R," three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.25 x 13.5, October 10, 1947. King George VI grants diplomat Claud Reuben Grice the "licence to wear the Insignia of the Order of Al Rafidain, Class III (Civil Division)," recognizing that the King of Iraq conferred the honor upon Grice for his "valuable services rendered…in the capacity of Assistant Adviser to the Iraqi Ministry of the Interior." Signed at the head in ink by King George VI. In fine condition, with some light soiling. Accompanied by a small archive of papers and correspondence from Grice's collection, including three letters signed by Kinahan Cornwallis, a British administrator and diplomat best known for being an advisor to King Faisal I of Iraq and for being the British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Iraq during the Anglo-Iraqi War.
