Description

Reagan presents an oversized portrait to former Texas governor John Connally

Color vintage satin-finish 13.5 x 10.5 photo of President Ronald Reagan with former Texas governor John Connally, signed and inscribed in black felt tip to Connally, "Dear John—This comes with heartfelt thanks & warmest friendship, Ron.” Framed to an overall size of 20.5 x 17.5. In fine condition.

Originally a Democrat, Connally served as governor of Texas from 1963 to 1969, and was famously wounded while riding in the presidential limousine in Dallas when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. He later served as Secretary of the Treasury under Richard Nixon, and switched parties in 1973. He campaigned against Reagan in the 1980 Republican primaries but ultimately came to endorse him, appearing with him at fundraising rallies and other campaign events.
