Description

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 22 x 17.5, June 18, 1866. President Johnson appoints Dwight Morris of Connecticut as "Consul of the United States of America, at Havre." Neatly signed at the conclusion in ink by President Andrew Johnson and countersigned by Secretary of State William H. Seward." The white paper seal affixed at the lower left remains intact. In fine condition, with intersecting folds. A Union colonel during the Civil War, Morris had commanded the 2nd Brigade of the 2nd Corps at the Battle of Antietam.
