Description

"I'm sorry I can't send a picture but my new bosses requested and now have every available photo"

Early ALS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Central Broadcasting Company (WHO) letterhead, May 4, 1937. Handwritten letter to an early admirer, in part: "Just a line to thank you for your kind letter and good wishes. I'm sorry I can't send a picture but my new bosses requested and now have every available photo including snapshots. The only likeness of myself which I have is a mirror and that isn't very flattering. Here are the autographs—I'm sorry more of the fellows weren't around but I'm sure you have heard all those whose signatures I did get." Nicely double-matted and framed with a portrait of Reagan at a WHO microphone and the original mailing envelope, addressed in Reagan's hand, to an overall size of 15 x 33.5. In fine condition.

After graduating from Eureka College, Reagan took up sports broadcasting as a career. Working for WHO radio in Des Moines, Iowa, he specialized in creating play-by-play accounts of Chicago Cubs games using only basic descriptions that the station received by wire as the games were in progress. In 1937, he moved to California and made his acting debut in the mystery film Love Is on the Air.
