U.S. Navy admiral (1887–1947) who commanded the Fast Carrier Task Force in the Pacific during the latter part of World War II. DS, signed “M. A. Mitscher,” one page both sides, 8 x 10.5, June 23, 1922. Early naval aviation document ordering naval aviator Lt. William D. Thomas to duty involving “actual flying in aircraft” at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Anacostia, D.C. Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by Mitscher as commanding officer of the Naval Air Station at Anacostia. Also signed by WWI admiral Thomas Washington, and future admirals Alfred W. Johnson, and John H. Dayton. In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and soiling.
