Third chief justice of the United States (1745–1807) and delegate to the Constitutional Congress who later submitted the amendments which became the Bill of Rights. Revolutionary War–dated ADS, signed "O. Ellsworth," one page, 8.25 x 6, June 2, 1777. Desirable Connecticut Pay-Table document penned in Ellsworth's hand, issued to Treasurer John Lawrence, in full: "Pay Capt. Peter Curtis Eleven pounds Thirteen shillings, for the Losses & Expence of Sickness of sundry of his Comp'y, in Colo. Enos Battalion." Mounted, matted, and framed with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 16 x 20. In fine condition, with some light staining to the left edge.
