Description

Partly-printed DS as president, one page,18 x 14, January 28, 1947. President Truman appoints Clarence M. Young, of California, as “a Member of the Civil Aeronautics Board for the term of six years.” Signed neatly at the conclusion by Harry S. Truman and countersigned by Secretary of State George C. Marshall. The lower left retains the original white paper seal. Matted and framed to an overall size of 23.25 x 19.25. In fine condition. Col. Clarence M. Young was a renowned aviation pioneer (1889-1973) who was issued the second flying U.S. Civil Air license in history. Young was President Herbert Hoover’s aviation secretary, the architect of the Federal airways system, and he appeared on the front cover of Time magazine in 1932.
