Description

Two letters from President Theodore Roosevelt and First Lady Edith Roosevelt, both addressed to noted New Orleans businessman and merchant Pearl Wight, and his wife, Helen Lauretta Wight. The lot contains a TLS from President Roosevelt, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, April 6, 1908, which reads: “Mrs. Roosevelt owes much of the pleasure of her trip to your quiet and thoughtful courtesy and consideration. I am very deeply indebted to Mrs. Wight and yourself”; and an ALS from the first lady, signed “Edith Kermit Roosevelt,” one page, both sides, 5.25 x 6.75, White House letterhead, April 7 [1908], in full: “It is scarcely necessary to say how much you and Mr. Wight added to the pleasure of our holiday by your kindness. Be assured that [we’re] hoping that we may meet soon again.” In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a vintage photo of President Roosevelt seated on a stage with several others, the original mailing envelopes for the two letters, and a White House invitation card to Mrs. Wight from “Mrs. Taft.”
