Hardcover with dust jacket, 6 x 8.75, 450 pages. Signed and inscribed opposite the half-title page in fountain pen, "To Eunice Wester, with best wishes, L. H. Brereton, Lt. Gen. In 1946, William Morrow published the wartime diary of the only American general officer who served and fought in every major theater in World War II. General Brereton was in command of the US Army Air Corp in the Philippines when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, later commanded in the China, Burma, India theater until he transferred to command the USAAF in Northern Africa. In 1943, he was placed in command of the Ninth Air Force in England to participate in the D-Day invasion. He has been described as a flamboyant 'bon vivant' with a taste for good living. His fascinating diary provides an important contemporary account of the war in every theater.
