Description

Partly-printed DS, signed “Edward RI,” one page both sides, 8 x 13, July 13, 1936. King Edward VIII grants a pardon to Thomas Ray Britcher, "convicted of being under the influence of drink when in charge of a motor vehicle and ordered to pay a fine of ten pounds." Prominently signed at the head in ink by King Edward VIII, and countersigned at the conclusion by Home Secretary John Simon. The embossed black seal affixed at the head remains intact. In fine condition. As Edward VIII reigned only from January 20 to December 11, 1936, any document signed as king is extremely scarce.
