King of France (1710–1774), known as 'Louis the Well-Beloved,' who ruled from 1715 to 1774, overseeing a long but turbulent reign marked by political struggles, lavish court life, and mounting financial crises that weakened the monarchy. ALS in French, signed “Louis,” one page both sides, 6.5 x 8.5, May 18, 1744. King Louis responds to the letter of the Comte de Saint-Florentin, who pleads in favor of the ordination to the "grade of knight" of the young Marquis de Bissy (Claude de Thiard de Bissy, 1721-1810), despite the fact that he has not yet reached the age required for the grade of Knight.
In the margin, King Louis XV writes (translated): "The day before yesterday I had the knights of the order (who are in the army) assembled and I told them that I would name the Mis. de Bissy, and that we would examine at the chapter on New Year's Day whether I would give him dispensations, or wait until he is old enough to receive them. You believe that it is better to give him these dispensations, so that he can be received at Candlemas if he is there." In fine condition. Accompanied by an export certificate from the French Ministry of Culture and a full French transcription.
