"I have been trying to have the state adopt 'California Here I Come' as the official state song, but to no avail, due to political complications"

American songwriter (1894–1987) who penned some of the most notable songs of the first half of the 20th century, including 'California, Here I Come,' 'If You Knew Susie,' 'A Cup of Coffee, a Sandwich and You,' and 'Summer Colors.' ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, April 28, 1955. Handwritten letter to "Mr. Crouch," in part: "I wish to state that there are no changes in my work, that is, as far as state songs are concerned. I have been trying to have the state adopt 'California Here I Come' as the official state song, but to no avail, due to political complications." In fine condition.
