TLS, one page, 7.5 x 10, State of New York Executive Chamber letterhead, May 5, 1931. Letter to John A. Manahan, marked "Personal." In full: "I need not explain to you that my long delayed answer to your letter has been due to the close of the legislative session and the fact that I had more than a thousand bills to pass on during the last month. I am going abroad tomorrow, but I picked your letter out of an appalling file in order that I might send you the little line you asked for, assuring you that I am in good spirits and am confident that the country has at last grown to realize that in the Democratic Party lies its hope of solving the tremendous economic problems of the day." In fine condition.
