Nixon was a regular supporter of Philadelphia's parochial school system; in February 1979, the New York Times reported: 'Former President Richard M. Nixon has given the Catholic school system $1,500 over the last three years, it was reported today. A spokesman for the Philadelphia Archdiocese said that Mr. Nixon, who met the Archbishop, John Cardinal Krol, in 1972, has sent the local parochial school system a check for $500 every year for the last three years.'
