Vintage matte-finish 13 x 16 portrait of the Hollywood studio head by renowned photographer Yousuf Karsh, signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen, "To my dear friend Ernest Kanzler, with every good wish from Louis B. Mayer.” Also signed in the lower left in pencil by the photographer, "Karsh, Ottawa." Affixed to a same-size mount and in very good to fine condition, with small areas of surface loss to the edges of the border (easily matted out), and staining and some surface loss to the upper right background of the image.
Master portraitist Yousuf Karsh captured some of the most enduring images of icons and celebrities throughout the 20th century; on February 8, 1946, he photographed MGM exec Louis B. Mayer in a sitting for Life Magazine.
