Partly-printed DS, filled out and signed twice, “W. G. Harding,” one page, 7.75 x 4, December 11, 1896. Unusual "Proof of Publication" document from the Marion Star, by which "W. G. Harding, of lawful age, being sworn, says that a printed notice, a copy of which is hereunto attached, was published for five consecutive weeks in The Marion Star, a newspaper published and in general circulation in said Marion County." The affixed classified clipping advertises a sheriff's sale of properties in Marion County, Ohio. In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.
Harding bought the Ohio daily newspaper The Marion Daily Star in 1884, and held ownership of the paper until mid-1923. Although Harding's editorial department slanted toward the Republican platform, the daily paper remained somewhat neutral due to its position as the newspaper of record for Marion County, Ohio. However, the Star's weekly publication served as the partisan arm of Harding's newspaper empire.
