Description

Politician and lawyer (1729–1789) who served as the first and fifth governor North Carolina; as a delegate to the First Continental Congress, he was a signatory of the 1774 Continental Association. Colonial North Carolina engraved bank note for "Ten Shillings," 4 x 2.25, issued as No. 6313, and reading: "The Province of North Carolina is indebted to the Possessor hereof Ten Shillings proc. Money to be paid out of the Public Treasury according to an Act of Assembly passed Dec. 1771." Signed at the conclusion in ink by Richard Caswell, "R. Caswell," and countersigned by three others. Encapsulated and graded by PCGS as "Choice XF 45."
