TLS signed “D. D. Eisenhower,” one page, 8 x 7, January 26, 1939. Letter sent to the Du Pont Circle Office of Riggs National Bank from the Manila Hotel in the Philippines, where he had accompanied MacArthur to serve as assistant military adviser to the Philippine government in developing their army. In full: "Inclosed is a check of the Treasury of the United States for Four Thousand Dollars ($4000.00) which is for deposit to my credit at your bank. Will you please notify me at your earliest convenience of the arrival of this check?" He adds a lengthy handwritten postscript, signed "D.D.E.," in full: "Dear Mrs. DuPrez: Col. Gerone will probably give you a ring to ask about the arrival of the check, as he may be able to send me an army radio. If he does call—it's O.K. to tell him. Mrs. Eisenhower and I send personal regards to you." In fine condition.
From the Collection of Paul K. Carr, former UACC President and Noted Expert.
