TLS as president, signed “Jerry Ford,” one page, 7 x 10.5, White House letterhead, October 21, 1974. President Ford addresses the "Voters of the Second Congressional District of Idaho," endorsing George Hansen for Congress. In full: "George Hansen was one of the Congressmen who, in 1965, helped elect me to the office of Minority Leader of the House of Representatives. This was George's first term in Congress and many of us recognized the potential leadership this new Congressman possessed.
Accordingly, George was assigned both to the Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs and to the Agriculture Committee. A double assignment to major Committees is rare for a new Congressman and is of vital importance for a State such as Idaho.
George's two terms in Congress were very productive for both Idaho and for the Nation. George's three years of experience in the Agriculture Department provided him with additional valuable expertise in government know-how.
George Hansen's broad federal background, his considerable background in local government, his achievements in the business and academic fields make him an outstanding choice to serve as your Congressman.
As your President, faced with many difficult decisions regarding matters of concern to the nation, I need men in the Congress like George Hansen. Idaho and the United States will benefit greatly from his leadership and service there." In very fine condition.
From the Collection of Paul K. Carr, former UACC President and Noted Expert.
