Ornithologist and artist (1785-1851) whose monumental pictorial studies of the birds and quadrupeds of North America take a place among the most distinguished accomplishments in the history of zoology and natural history illustration Scarce third-person ANS, signed within the text "J. J. Audubon," 6.75 x 3.75, October 9, 1839. Handwritten note to L. S. Clark, in full: "Mr. J. J. Audubon's compliments to L. S. Clark, Esq.; and begs his acceptance of the within. 86 White Street." Matted with a portrait and engraved plaque to an overall size of 20.25 x 14.25. In fine condition, with overall light creasing.
