English artist and book illustrator (1879-1976) known especially for his human-like animals in illustrations for Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne. Desirable original pen-and-ink illustration by Ernest Shepard for Tom Brown's School Days by Thomas Hughes, accomplished on an off-white 5.5 x 9 Whatman water-colour board, signed on the reverse in fountain pen, "E. H. Shepard, Woodmancote, Lodsworth, Sussex." The detailed drawing shows two mischievous boys climbing a clock tower. Matted to an overall size of 11.25 x 15. In fine condition.
