Handwritten school notes from a 14-year-old Robert De Niro, penned in blue ballpoint on an off-white 8.5 x 11 sheet of notebook paper, the top of which De Niro has signed, dated, and added the class subject: “Robert De Niro, World Geography, 3/5/58.” De Niro answers a series of four questions: “1. Canada, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Mexico / 2. Lake Huron, Superior, Erie, Michegan [sic], and Ontario. / 3. Maine, Vermont, New Ham., Mass, Conn., North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, Delaware, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Virginia, and Rhode Island. / 4. Pacific Ocean, and Atlantic.” In fine condition, with some light creasing, and paper loss to the left edge.
De Niro attended Elisabeth Irwin High School for the seventh and eighth grades, and was then accepted into the High School of Music & Art for the ninth grade, but attended for only a short time before transferring to a public junior high school: IS 71, Charles Evans Hughes Junior High School. De Niro attended high school at McBurney School and later, Rhodes Preparatory School, but ultimately dropped out of high school at the age of 16 to pursue acting.
