Description

Uncommon athlete’s badge presented to members of the U.S. Olympic Team after the Amsterdam 1928 Summer Olympics, 28 gm, 45 mm, suspended from a tricolor ribbon. The front features the seal of New York City raised in relief, encircled by "Mayor's Committee, The City of New York," with a legend on the reverse: "Presented by Mayor James J. Walker to the Victorious American Athletes Upon Their Return from the Ninth Olympics at Amsterdam, Holland.” The pin and badge both bear Dieges & Clust maker's marks. Includes its original presentation box.

The American Olympic team returned from Amsterdam aboard the S.S. President Roosevelt, where a glorious reception awaited them in New York City. Although the ticker-tape parade scheduled for August 22nd was canceled due to heavy rain, the athletes were treated to a luncheon at the Hotel McAlpin.
