French writer (1866–1944) who won the 1915 Nobel Prize for Literature. ALS in French, one page on a 5.5 x 3.5 postcard depicting a villa, January 19, 1937. Untranslated handwritten letter by Romain Rolland, addressed to a Miss Schloss. In very good condition, with creases and tape stains, none of which affect the signature. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Rolland's own hand, plus a typed letter signed by his wife, Marie Rolland, dated October 6, 1936, in part (translated): "My husband received your request for an autograph a few months ago. He will gladly give you one, on condition that you pay a small contribution to a charity in which he is interested (relief for the children and women of Spain)."
