British admiral (1770-1851) who, as captain of the Orion, was hailed as a hero at the Battle of Trafalgar. ALS signed “Edw'd Codrington,” one page, 4.5 x 7, March 18, 1837. Handwritten letter to "W. Scott, Esq.," in full: "Sir, I cannot help thinking I signed last year a similar general draft to that in your letter to me received this evening. I have always done so respecting every club, subscription or charity to which I subscribe; and I think it will be found so on enquiry at Messrs. Drummond." In fine condition, with light edge toning.
