American-born Loyalist military officer, landowner, merchant, and colonial official in the British Indian Department (1728-1796) who knew several Iroquoian languages and worked as an interpreter in the lucrative fur trade. During the Revolutionary War, he led the provincial regiment known as Butler's Rangers on the frontiers of New York and Pennsylvania. Uncommon DS, signed “John Butler Judge,” one page, 7.5 x 6.25, September 12, 1774. Handwritten legal document in the case of John Mitcham v. John Hendrickson in a "Plea of Trespass." In fine condition.
