Headlines include, “Death of President Taylor”; “Circumstances Attending That Event”; “Eulogies in Congress”; and “Inauguration of President Fillmore.” Riveting reading on the circumstances of the death and the swearing in of President Fillmore in the House of representatives. Fillmore quotes Taylor’s last words to the effect, “I have always done my duty; I am ready to die; My only regret is for the friends I leave behind me.” The report continues with a description of the swearing in of President Fillmore.
