Complete issue of the National Intelligencer from July 11, 1850, four pages, 18.5 x 23, imprinted with a black mourning border, reporting on the death of President Taylor and the inauguration of Millard Fillmore. Significant reportage on the circumstances of the president's death and the swearing in of President Fillmore in the House of representatives. Fillmore quotes Taylor’s last words to the effect, “I have always done my duty; I am ready to die; My only regret is for the friends I leave behind me.” In very good condition, with edge tears, scattered staining, and an ink inscription at the head.
