Description

From Freddie's estate—rare signed printer proof for a never-used 'Radio Ga Ga’ Christmas card

Uncut printer proof for a proposed Queen ‘Radio Ga Ga’ Christmas card from the 1980s, 20.5 x 12.5, featuring an image of Queen taken during the video shoot for ‘Radio Ga Ga,’ signed above his image in blue ink by Freddie Mercury. This image was also intended to be used on the 7-inch single sleeve, but it was ultimately withdrawn. The consignor notes that a number of these proofs were signed by Mercury in Germany in the mid-1980s before Christmas and then sent back to London where they were arranged to be made into Christmas cards. However, this project never materialized and the proofs remained in Mercury’s home, Garden Lodge, for over 35 years. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

This Christmas card was part of lot 2181 from the Freddie Mercury: A World Of His Own, Crazy Little Things 2 sale held at Sotheby’s New Bond Street, London on September 13, 2023. However, the lot was withdrawn by Sotheby’s and purchased before the auction by a party affiliated with the band.
