American boxer (1898-1970) who is generally considered one of the best boxers to never have won a world title, though he was a top-rated contender for both the world light and welterweight championships. He is a member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, the Ring Magazine Hall of Fame, the World Boxing Hall of Fame, and the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
