General in the Union Army during the American Civil War (1809-1891). Scarce 2.25 x 3.5 carte-de-visite portrait photo of Horatio P. Van Cleve in his military uniform, signed on the lower mount in ink, "H. P. Van Cleve, Brig. Gen. Vols.,” who also signs on the reverse, “H. P. Vam Cleve, Brig. Gen. Cdng, 3d. Div. 21st A.C.” In very good to fine condition, with a trimmed top edge, and a light stain touching the signature.
