ALS signed “Walter,” one page, 7.25 x 10.25, personal letterhead, May 27, 1965. Humorous handwritten letter to friend and director Billy Wilder, in full: “The iodine I understand but when did you ever taste horse-piss? I once tasted camel-piss but someone tricked me into it. Please don’t save any whiskey for me as I don’t drink that much. We are still surrounded by infidels.” In reference to his camel line, Matthau adds below: “They told me later what it was.” In fine condition, with two torn file holes to the top edge. Billy Wilder and Walter Matthau worked together on a total of seven films, including 1966’s The Fortune Cookie, which won the latter the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
