Kranefeldt, in full (translated): “Moritzin was already in a somewhat better condition here and was still like that when she left here. I tried my best to reason with her but the devil-genius has her by the collar once again. You have to be very careful with her heart. You are quite right, what she needs first and foremost is rest, some sleeping pills and careful monitoring of her condition. If you can, do something about her. There is absolutely no talk of any debt to me. Your bill is absolutely fine. She wrote me a long letter, from which one can clearly see how she has fallen back into her own lava, where she is trying to die in a divine-devilish way. She should be taken away from this heroic nonsense.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
A very interesting letter that touches on Jung’s ideas about the devil and genius, as well as archetypal symbols such as lava, which were all part of his thinking. The Moritz mentioned here is ostensibly noted Jungian Eva Moritz, the president of the C. G. Jung Society of Berlin that was founded on December 24, 1931.
Kranefeldt was a German psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and National Socialist (1892-1950) who was closely associated with Carl Jung. He was active in the AAGP and IAAGP in the 1930s and in 1936 joined the faculty of the Göring Institute in Berlin. He was regarded as Jung's ‘leading pupil in Germany. In 1934, Kranefeldt published the book Secret Ways of the Mind: A Survey of the Psychological Principles of Freud, Adler, and Jung. The work features an introduction by Jung, which to this day offers great into his reassessment of psychoanalysis.
