Insignia display honoring Lieutenant General William P. Yarborough and Operation Torch, an Allied invasion of French North Africa during the Second World War that marked the first mass involvement of U.S. troops in the European-North African Theatre and that witnessed the first major airborne assault carried out by the United States. The display is highlighted by a faded 4.75 x 2.5 American flag patch, with a lower caption stating: “Worn on the Sleeve of Paratrooper Uniform of Major William P. Yarborough During Invasion of North Africa 8 November 1942 and Subsequent Combat in Algeria and Tunisia.” Also included is a gold ink signature and inscription, “William P. Yarborough, Lt. Gen. USA (Ret),” a Type 1912 Tunisia 20 francs note, a printed copy of the Operation Torch flight path, a Fifth Army patch, a photo of Yarborough in uniform with said patch, a French 3rd Zouave Regiment badge, a 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion badge, and a Combat Infantryman badge; all of which are matted and framed together to an overall size of 18.25 x 14.25. In overall very good to fine condition, with heavy wear to the small flag.
